Bitcoin Article on Wikipedia Was the Ninth Most Popular Last Year

Another area where bitcoin was searched frequently was the website Wikipedia. The website hosts a free encyclopedia that is openly editable, while educational resources are also provided in 299 different languages. Wikipedia recently published its “Annual Top 50 Report” which includes a curated list of the top fifty most popular articles on Wikipedia throughout 2017.

The Wiki Bitcoin article was the ninth most popular last year on Wikipedia.
According to Wiki’s data, the ‘Bitcoin’ article was the ninth most popular encyclopedia post last year just below the ‘United States’ articles and just above the Netflix drama series ‘13 Reasons Why.’ Bitcoin stands among other top ten editorials documenting Donald Trump, Game of Thrones, and Queen Elizabeth II. The introduction in the Wiki Bitcoin article states:

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. It is the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central bank or single administrator. The network is peer-to-peer and transactions take place between users directly, without an intermediary.

The Wiki Bitcoin article is just below the ‘United States’ article, and above the Netflix original show ’13 Reasons Why.’

Wiki Senior Editor: ‘Bitcoin the Much-Hyped “Future of Money”

Last year the ‘Bitcoin’ article accumulated over 15 million views and the page peaked in traffic on December 8, 2017. In the annual report Wiki Senior Editor JFG gives the article a bit of an odd introduction.

“For our dear readers who can’t make heads or tails of this novelty: Bitcoin is as good as gold, shinier than lead, bubblier than tulips, held deep in the mines, and driving people nuts,” explains the Wiki editor.

Gold has enriched adventurers and bitcoin has held fools to ransom. You may dive in a pool of gold, but lose it all at war. Strangely, while you can still buy gold today and forget about it until your great-grandchildren cash it out, the much-hyped “future of money” has turned into the most speculative intangible asset of all time, while proving totally unsuitable as a means of payment.

Within the archives of 5,000 most popular articles from last week according to the Wiki page ‘User:west.andrew.g/popular pages,’ Bitcoin ranks at number 354. The page is aggregated from raw data which displays articles with at least 1,000 hits in a seven day period and only the most popular are published through the feed. Ethereum just makes the cut at 3710, Cryptocurrency 1273, and Blockchain slides ahead at 312. All of the data showing how popular digital currencies are on Wiki is derived from the company’s content consumption metrics which shows datasets of raw dump files and page views.

North Korea's nuclear test site causing 'deformed babies,' killing vegetation, defectors say

North Korea’s crippling nuclear test site is turning the area into a “wasteland” where “deformed babies” are being born and 80 percent of vegetation dies off due to nuclear radiation, nearly two dozen defectors told a South Korean newspaper Monday.

The Research Association of Vision of North Korea interviewed 21 North Korean defectors who lived in Kilju, a nearby town north of the Punngye-ri nuclear test site where six tests have been conducted, and said babies were reportedly being born with birth defects and residents feared radiation contamination because of the high mortality rate for any form of life, South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reported.

“I personally saw corpses floating down the river with their limbs severed."

"I heard from a relative in Kilju that deformed babies were born in hospitals there,” one defector said, according to the newspaper.

Another added: "I spoke on the phone with family members I left behind there and they told me that all of the underground wells dried up after the sixth nuclear test."

Barcelona news: Lionel Messi has CAUSED Luis Suarez slump in form - Balague

GUILLEM BALAGUE has claimed Lionel Messi is partly responsible for Luis Suarez’s goal drought. The Uruguay international has scored an impressive 124 goals in 159 games for Barcelona in all competitions since joining from Liverpool in 2014.

Luis Suarez has been forced much wider to accommodate for Lionel Messi, according to Guillem Balague

“Barcelona have been very impressive defensively,” Balague told Sky Sports.

“Everybody is working very hard without the ball and they have only shipped three goals so far.

But this season Suarez has struggled in front of goal, scoring just three goals in his opening 12 games of the season.

In contrast, Messi has been unbelievable in front of goal with 16 goals in his opening 15 games.

And La Liga expert Balague believes he knows why Suarez has not been at the same level of his South American counterpart.

“They are playing without wingers, which tightens everything up in the central areas.

“With little space to work, their play becomes more industrial and Luis Suarez suffers.

“Now that Lionel Messi is working more through the middle, Suarez has to move wider. That's not his natural habitat.”

Destiny 2 doesn’t work with old AMD Phenom II CPUs - Travels, Education

Destiny 2 is out on PC, but some players may have to upgrade before they can play it if they are running older AMD Phenom II-generation CPUs. A number of people on forums reported that they bought Bungie’s sci-fi cooperative online shooter after trying it during the beta, but the final game crashes to their desktop during the character-select screen. This won’t affect most people, who have upgraded or bought their PC in the last seven years.

Since launching Destiny 2 on PC earlier today, however, Bungie has updated its “known issues” tracker to confirm why some of those dated chips may not work. “Destiny 2 will not run on processors without Supplemental Streaming SIMD Extensions 3 (SSSE3),” reads the Bungie forums.

AMD added SSSE3 to its chips starting with its Bobcat architecture in 2011, and all of its chips after that point included the technology. That means Phenom II CPUs from 2010 or earlier won’t work with Destiny 2 — at least for now.

I’ve reached out to Bungie to ask if this is something that could change. The studio hasn’t responded yet, but I’ll pass along any statement I get from the studio. One reason some fans are surprised a CPU from seven years ago doesn’t work with Destiny 2 is because the chip seemed to handle the game’s preview beta test just fine.

Here’s Destiny 2’s beta test running on high settings with the Phenom II X4:

For everyone with a more recent CPU, Destiny 2 seems as well-optimized as we expected. It runs at 4K and 60 frames per second without breaking a sweat on an Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti and Intel i7 7700k. But it also scales down to run on laptops and older machines … just not older machines running certain AMD CPUs from last decade.

If you did buy the game and are running a CPU without SSSE3 support, you can ask Blizzard support for a refund.
