Watch Star Trek star Sonequa Martin-Green show off her Vulcan salute - Travels, Education

Sonequa Martin-Green has already donned her Starfleet uniform to play First Officer Michael Burnham in CBS’ upcoming Star Trek: Discovery, but EW editor-at-large James Hibberd made sure she did one more thing to complete her Star Trek rite of passage: show off a Vulcan salute.

While sitting down for an interview inside EW’s Comic-Con studio, the star — whose character happens to be a human raised on Vulcan by Spock’s father — pulls off the classic gesture around the 5:45 mark, even accomplishing it with both hands. And that, she says, is not the only reason to look forward to the series.

“We couldn’t be more excited,” Martin-Green says of being a part of the Star Trek universe. “It’s an interesting story, and there’s a lot of dynamics at play there about success and failure, victory and defeat, and fear and guilt.” What else would you expect from the final frontier?
